WSU Football Recruiting: QB Tyler Hilinski Verbally Commits to Mike Leach

Mike Leach and the Washington State Cougars are just a couple weeks removed from failing to land two quarterbacks they really wanted, but it didn’t take long to move on. Now, Leach has his guy for the 2015 class; Tyler Hilinski of Upland, CA is a Coug!

Hilinski was offered along with Brady White two-and-a-half weeks ago and while not highly recruited up to that point, he said he has begun receiving plenty of interest since WSU offered him. The 6’3, 200 lbs signal-caller decided after an unofficial visit to Pullman this week that he couldn’t wait to commit.

It’s unclear whether or not White’s offer will still be on the table, though he is the more heralded prospect. While Leach has never been afraid to take two QB’s in a class, Tyler Bruggman, Peyton Bender, Luke Falk and Tyler Hilinski make up an extremely young corps at the position as of next Fall. More can be better, but realistically the Cougs could probably use that spot somewhere else to improve their team depth.

Looking a little more at Hilinski’s biggest strengths, the 3-star recruit possesses tremendous accuracy and while he’s not the most speedy kid on the run he has some incredible footwork in and out of the pocket. That footwork allows him to extend plays, as any good quarterback needs to be able to do and find someone down the field.

Looking forward to seeing how this commitment continues to snowball for this 2015 class. Hilinski is the third WSU-commit alongside 4-stars Thomas Toki and Austin Joyner who will both be coming in on the defensive side of the ball.
