Prediction and Early Impact:
Bender will redshirt his first year, but not because a lack of skill. Bender has every ability to come into Washington State and make an impact, but the depth at the quarterback position will give him a year to learn the system before getting his shot at playing. Connor Halliday, Austin Apodaca, and Tyler Bruggman will be Bender’s competition in the upcoming years with Halliday graduating after next year.
Bender’s best attributes are his ability to stay in the pocket with poise and be able to throw the long ball. One of his other attributes is his footwork in both the pocket and while on the run. In high school Bender ran a form of the air-raid offense that Mike Leach has installed in the program at Washington State.
With his arm strength, accuracy, and pocket presence Bender will add to the Cougars offense and give them a good shot at becoming a PAC-12 contender.
