Prediction and Early Impact:
Patrick Porter is underrated, but after watching the film the second time, he’s not as underrated as I originally thought. Still, he’s all set up to make an early impact in his freshman season. I can’t see him starting, but I see him jumping into the rotation in a similar role as Daquawn Brown did in 2013.
Porter is a little lanky, but he’s fast and loves to hit. On top of that, he has decent coverage ability and good “football speed” meaning he gets to places to make the play when it doesn’t look like he’ll be able to. He also closes well on the football when it’s in the air, giving him the unique ability to play man and zone coverage equally well.
He does have a lot of work to do, as he’s not the most technically sound, but his raw ability and closing speed make him a lock in my opinion to see the field early and often in 2014.
“Freshman Impact Potential” Rating: 6.5
