Washington State Football GameDay Huddle: vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights!

It’s finally time! The Washington State Cougars kickoff their season against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights from New Jersey tonight at the Clink (Century Link Field) in Seattle.

More from Washington State Football

WSU football fans have been waiting for this all Spring and Summer and the team has been focused since the last snap against Colorado State in last season’s Gildan New Mexico Bowl resulted in the Rams stealing a winning season from them. Personally, I haven’t been this excited about a team in Pullman since 2003. I really feel like this is the year the Cougs break out and not only produce the first winning season in 11 years, but take it all the way to 9 or perhaps even 10 wins!

Of course, we’ll see just how possible that is while watching tonight’s contest. If the Cougs come out and blow the door’s off of the Knights, people not just around the Palouse but around the country might start to buy into the man they call Mike Leach for year three. If RU comes in and steals one somehow, all bets are off.

Of course it won’t be easy, because it never is, but the Cougars are in the perfect position. Still, nobody knows just how talented Connor Halliday and his returning receiving corps is. Eight guys with 30-plus catches last season. EIGHT! That’s an NCAA record! Yet Pac-12 Networks analysts don’t even mention the group in the top three in the conference. A Pac-12 record-setting quarterback (if not for Sean Mannion and Brandin Cooks‘ ridiculous season), yet he’s almost forgotten in the top half of the conference when naming great QBs in the league.

Time to prove it Cougs! Crush Rutgers!

GO COUGS!
