Cougar Volleyball 2025: Building Momentum at Midseason

Cougar Volleyball is prowling the court with dominance this season. The Cougs have started the season 8-4. The Cougs are also 2-0 in conference play. Let’s take a look back on the season so far.

Utah Classic

The Cougs started the season with the Utah classic where they went 1-2. They opened the season with a win against Lafayette College. Lucie Blažková scored 7 kills to end the night with the Cougar victory. The Cougs would then catch their first 2 losses of the year against top 25 opponents. No 24 Dayton and No 23 Utah.

GCU Classic

The Cougs made their way to the GCU classic where they were able to secure 2 wins at the event. They picked up their first win of the Classic against Northern Arizona University with a dominant 3-1 win. Blažková starred again with a massive 19 kills in the game. Taryn Vrieling also racked up 14 kills. The Cougs dropped the next game of the classic against GCU on their own court in a close 3-2 loss. They then finished the Classic with a 3-1 win against East Texas A&M.

Harvard Invitational

WSU arrived at Harvard with grit. They quickly put down Harvard in their own court with a 3-0 victory. The team put up 49 kills against Harvard in a quick victory. They finished up at Harvard with a 3-1 victory against Seton Hall.

Non-Conference

Opening up for the first game at home the Cougs and Huskies took to the Apple Cup of volleyball. WSU gathered 11 team blocks and took the opening set 25-22. Unfortunately after a close set two they were unable to score any more sets giving the Huskies the 3-1 victory.

The Cougs then took on Eastern Washington University at home where they got their first home win of the season in a 3-0 sweep.

Conference

Cougars Opened West Coast Conference Play with a Sweep Over San Francisco at home. Eliana Ti'a racked in 8 kills and the whole Cougar team showed out. After starting conference play hot they took on Santa Clara University with the Cougs winning 3-2 in a close battle. Cate Shanahan showed up with a massive 20 kills.

The Cougars look to be Volleyball contenders this year and could go on to be top players in the West Coast Conference. Starting 2-0 in conference is a promising start.
