It’s that time of the year again for Washington State Basketball, and the Cougars’ men and women kick off their season today.

Halloween is over and we are finally moving into the best time of the year. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Washington State basketball are finally here. Only the latter of that statement is true, but, you get what I am trying to say here. It’s time to get excited.

Today marks game one for both Kyle Smith, Kamie Ethridge and their Washington State basketball squads. The lady Cougars host the Loyola Marymount Lions this afternoon while the men host Texas State later this evening. It will be imperative for both team’s to start off on the right foot with a victory after the dust settles and they are both more than capable to do that with the talent on their respective rosters.

Players to watch for the Cougar women cannot be mentioned with out noting none other than Charlisse Leger-Walker, as she is the straw that stirs the drink for this lady Cougar basketball team. A player fans should keep an eye out for, however, is Bella Murekatete. She’s the senior Center for the Cougars and she has only gotten better each and every season. Be on the lookout for her and the Cougs this season.

it wouldn’t be hyperbole to say both Washington State Basketball teams will be buying some new dancing shoes

The WSU Cougar men are a different bunch then they were last year. Some familiar faces are gone or missing time to start the year. Still, some faces remain such as Mouhamed Gueye, TJ Bamba and DJ Rodman make this team memorable from seasons past. I expect those guys to show out and prove that the Cougs aren’t messing around this season. One to watch, as promised, is freshman big man Adrame Diongue, him and Gueye could potentially form a lethal frontcourt for the Cougars this season.

Needless to say, intrigue is in high supply for both of these teams this year. The Cougar women come off a very impressive NCAA Tournament appearance last year, and are hungry to make it deeper into the dance this season to prove to all doubters that it wasn’t a fluke. Meanwhile the men’s squad looks to build off a very fun NIT run, one that saw them as one of the last 4 teams remaining. If they can use that momentum to start strong this year, it wouldn’t be hyperbole to say both Washington State basketball teams will be buying some new dancing shoes come March 2023.
