Cougs look to open 2015 season with a win

It has been 280 days since the Cougs took the field. That wait ends in just 1 more day.

On Saturday morning Mike Leach will lead his 2015 team onto the field against Portland State looking to start the season 1-0 for the first time in his four year tenure. This will also be the first time his gets to debut his new team at the friendly confines of Martin Stadium

3 seasons ago Mike Leach’s debut was a flop in a 30-6 loss at BYU. In 2013 WSU fell to Auburn on the road before traveling to the Coliseum and closing the coffin on the Lane Kiffin era. Last year in Seattle the offense wasted the first half and fumbled away a victory against Rutgers.

There is little reason to believe the Cougs will not get the elusive opening day win tomorrow.

Portland State is coming off a 3-9 season with wins over Western Oregon, UC Davis, and Northern Arizona. They have a new head coach in Bruce Barnum (on an interim basis) and 16 returning starters. On paper this is a team that should settle near the bottom of the Big Sky Conference.

Mike Leach is 0-3 in season openers with Washington State, look for that to end on Saturday.

I expect Quarterback Luke Falk to throw the ball early and often. I expect the loaded group of receivers to overwhelm the PSU seconday. I expect the scoreboard to struggle keeping up with the Cougar offense. Washington State should roll to kick off the 2015 season with a win.

How do you expect the Cougs to do in tomorrow’s home opener?
