Ernie Kent and the Washington State coaching staff couldn’t seem to find much to end 2014, but didn’t waste any time going after some size for 2015. The program has picked up a commitment from Bountiful, UT power forward Jeff Pollard.
As a junior in 2013/2014, Pollard averaged 9.4 points, 7.7 boards and 2.3 blocks per game. Not super numbers but definitely solid and basically the kind of hard-working, defensive minded big man that Kent needs to balance out a bevy of scoring guards.
Pollard stands 6’8″, 215 lbs and was recently at WSU’s Elite Camp, where he showed off everything Kent needed to see to make the offer.
Other offers for Pollard were made by Southern Utah while Weber State and Portland were showing recent interest. It’s so early in the cycle, now that WSU has seen him and offered it would be a shock not to see some other Pac-12 teams at least take a look. For now though, it looks like Pollard is excited as can be to be a Coug and if Kent likes him, I get the feeling we all will.
Go Cougs!
