Prediction and Early Impact:
At 6’7 Evers has the size to match up with other players but lacks some of the skill to compete with them. Off the line Evers is able to handle his opponent easily and is able to use his upper body strength to keep the defense away.
In high school Evers mainly played defensive end and was able to handle himself with the opposing lineman. One thing that worries me about Evers is that he was standing up a lot of plays. The lower man wins and Evers will have to understand that in order to protect the back field more thoroughly.
I see Evers using his red shirt year to take the time to work on his intangibles and his speed. The offensive lineman that the Cougars have are young and allow Evers to take the year without the Cougars losing much with him sitting out. With the extra year that Evers will gain it will only help him out in the long run.
