Prediction and Early Impact:
I see Greg Hoyd being a redshirt his first year. The Cougars will have 10+ linebackers going into the 2014 season. Hoyd is a very physical linebacker that will use the redshirt season to bulk up and get used to the defense while allowing the upperclassmen to get their time in.
With good hands and vision he is able to get in and stop the run at the line of scrimmage. With his size and speed he will be hard for lineman to stop him and for the ball carrier to get free after Hoyd has him wrapped up.
One thing Hoyd needs to work on is ability to shed blocks and see where he needs to be ahead of time. Hoyd often has the speed to get by the lineman and into the backfield, but when taken on in open space he struggles a little.
