3-Star CB Sulaiman Hameed Signs With Washington State Cougars on Signing Day
By George Means
*Sulaiman Hameed hadn’t officially signed during the broadcasting period of the Cougar fax machine, but we are taking the retweet by Hameed below as an indicator of his apparently signing within the past hour or so.
Cougar Secondary is in desperate need. They are returning 2 Ints from 2013 and both belong to Daquawn Brown. Early need is probably most apparent here. Taylor Taliulu is the top returner in the secondary, but heir apparent David Bucannon has fraternal shoes to fill, and may lend his soft voice to devastating hits.
Make no bones about it, Sulaiman Hameed is an athlete. He made his statements on offense and defense for Alameda High School last year at Safety, CB, Receiver and QB in addition to returning kicks. He’ll make you miss, certainly.
He is taking the Marshall Tucker Train to Pullman, however, as the only other optimism for Sulaiman rested in Tempe. There may be some tinkering to do on Hameed, but his position is not certain. Recruited as a CB, there may be some safety left in him if he can add weight to his 5’11” frame.
Currently at 175 lbs, Cougs can hope. Listen, there is no reason Hameed can not step onto either side of the field, or make a significant role on special teams, but there are significant injury concerns that could be rectified by WSU strength and conditioning coaches. He missed all of his junior year and most of his senior year to injuries, so take anything we get in Pullman as gravy, like Percy Harvin for the 2013 Seahawks.
