WSU Women’s Basketball Gets Romped In Oregon, 82-66

The Washington State Cougar women did themselves no favors in the postseason bid on Friday night, coming out flat and ultimately getting pushed aside by the Oregon Ducks. The 16 point setback wasn’t a delight to watch, despite the good news that Lia Galdeira was back into the lineup after missing the game last weekend against Utah.

It’s also not something that can’t be overcome as this four-game road trip unfolds, so it’s important the Cougs rebound with an inspired game on Sunday in Corvallis. The Beavers however won’t be an easy task, as they are coming off their own 75-68 victory over the Washington Huskies. But back to Friday night for a moment.

Galdeira didn’t play overly outstanding, but she did put up 16 on a pedestrian 5 for 17. Unfortunately the supporting cast was also far from supportive, especially backcourt mate Tia Presley. The latter went 2 for 13 from the floor, rendering her 14 point night quite misleading. You won’t find better numbers on the night’s box score, except for a nice 4 for 5 performance from Dawnyelle Awa, who finished with 9.

Oregon had three players just go off. Despite an 0-7 performance from 3-point range, guard Chrishae Rowe rained down 24 big points. Forward Jillian Alleyne scored 21 and another guard, Lexi Petersen, poured in 13.

The Cougs play the Beavs at 2 pm pst on Sunday afternoon in Corvallis.
