Prediction and Early Impact:
Markell Sanders has decent size and is going to be moved to safety, but at this point he is going to be a depth player for awhile. Part of the move is due to the fact that Sanders doesn’t have a great first couple of steps in either direction. He does do a nice job of rallying to the football, but he just doesn’t have a killer instinct once he’s there. He does a lot of catching and not a whole lot of hitting at the point of attack.
Eventually he’ll learn that if you don’t deliver the blow you’re either going to be run over yourself or shook straight out of your jock. He’s also been out of football for a year and a half, so it may take awhile to get back into it. The Cougs have much better depth at safety than at corner right now, so there will be time for Sanders to grow into the position, which is a good thing.
