WSU Women’s Hoops: Cougars Start Streak of Their Own by Sweeping Aside Washington Huskies

Folks it’s officially a DOUBLE STREAK in Pullman on the hardwood! It’s not Ken Bone and the men’s basketball team we’re talking about either (though they are mired in their own annual slump right now).
Indeed, it is the ladies that have come together and are most assuredly giving us their best showing in almost two decades (or more, going back at least 15 seasons the legitimacy of WSU women’s hoops is pretty… well, illegitimate). The double-header against the lady Huskies from Washington was an opportunity to stop the streak of 19 seasons and prove that this June Daugherty coached team might be worth the price of admission as we get deep into Pac-12 play this season.
After 36 straight losses, it was “Mission Impossible” to ask for both in a five day span, but surely the Cougs could get one, right?
Well boil me up a 007, because mission accomplished, and more! Not only did the win on Saturday come in convincing fashion, but that takes the Coug win streak to four, and the conference record to a perfect 4-0. On Saturday the Cougars scored at least 82 points for the 3rd time in the past four games! Going even further, the ladies have scored at least 80 in six contests this season and at least 76 in four more games.
That’s 10 games of 76 points or more! The men have accomplished that feat exactly four times and against arguably lower level competition. “Well, is that really fair?”
HECK YES IT’S FAIR!
Already two top 25 wins (Nebraska #10, ASU #24), a win in Seattle, a 10-6 overall and 4-0 Pac-12 Conference start. If that’s difficult math, the Cougars are tied atop the conference after two weekends of play! If they go on to beat #17 Colorado on Friday, not even a loss to Utah two days later would keep them out of the top 25. Not with the way Lia Galdeira and Co. are playing!
While the guys are currently the team everybody wants to play, the girls are for real in Pullman and nobody wants a piece. It’s early, but let’s keep it rolling on the Palouse ladies!
Go Cougs!
