The NFL Draft isn’t til April, but the 1st round mock drafts have already been weeks in the making. Yesterday FanSided’s NFL Mocks got their first bid on the full 2nd round action. Washington State’s Deone Bucannon was “drafted” by the Chicago Bears at No. 51.
Here’s the comment supporting the pick on site:
"#51 – Chicago Bears – Deone Bucannon – SS – Washington StateSafety became a sore spot for Chicago as the season went on. Major Wright is a free agent. So they take Deone Bucannon, a 6’1″ safety from WashingtonState with a reputation for dealing fierce hits and taking the ball away."
When you think of a Chicago Bears defense, you generally probably start with linebacker and that tough front-seven. Then you think turnovers with those guys in the secondary. Unfortunately for them, the back-end is where the Bears struggled in 2013, failing to make the playoffs when Aaron Rodgers basically hail-mary’d the Green Bay Packers in, while booting the Bears out.
At WSU Bucannon was known for the two things that define Chicago football, crushing hits and the takeaway. This marriage makes sense. Interestingly, if Chicago does happen to take “Buck” (as he was known in Pullman), they would have taken Washington State players in back-to-back years. Remember Marquess Wilson is playing as a 2nd or 3rd string receiver whom they drafted in the 7th round in 2012.
The draft is a long ways out, but we’re just getting warmed up trying to figure out a landing spot for Deone Bucannon. We’ll keep you updated.
Go Cougs!
