Of course right after I get done saying it’s in the air between two, we find out that the Chris Petersen interview was not-so-publicly conducted last night in Boise. Sure enough all reports are that the Washington Huskies are going to hire the BSU head coach away to Seattle.

And so it’s official. Mike Leach vs Chris Peterson is your new Apple Cup rivalry. Two proven coaches, two programs on the rise in the Pac-12 North. At least that’s the initial look of things.

We know Wazzu is on the rise, but can the Dawgs keep their momentum going? The bowl game could go bad without a coaching staff to really coach it. If Sankey then jumps to the NFL the Huskies might have to reform their offensive identity. He’s got to be Petersen’s number one recruit coming in and would fit well in the new coach’s offense.

And the question has to be asked, is Petersen the next Dan Hawkins? The next Boise head-man to bolt for greener pastures, only to wilt under the high expectations and run a proud program into the ground? He may have to answer that question a few times this off-season.

He’s probably not that guy though. Petersen’s got more experience and seems like he has it more together on the surface. But there’s no proof yet that’s the case.

And who was the better hire for Washington at the time, Sark or Petersen? So many questions to be answered for the Huskies and I think it’s best we leave it to them. God we’ve talked enough about ’em this week here at ACU.

For now we Cougs only have one thing left to do; Cue the Chris Petersen jokes!

Go Cougs!
