WSU Volleyball Stuns No. 4 USC Trojans
By Josh Davis
Jen Greeny and her Washington State Cougar volleyball team have struggled through the Pac-12 season, going through a six match losing streak, then another three match losing streak before they took on the 4th ranked Trojans on Sunday.
It looked like the typical USC dominance you would expect and the lady Trojans took an easy two set lead. But then the Cougars responded like champions, staving off elimination until they had it all tied up at 2-2 heading to the 5th set.
With a terrific home crowd behind them and in a wild final set, the Cougs were able to hold on, finally winning it with a 21-19 margin and causing a raucous celebration from the Coug faithful in attendance. It’s not often that the volleyball court gets rushed, at least not that I’ve seen, but in a magical moment it happened here!
With the win the Cougs go to 18-12 on the season with all 12 losses coming in conference play. Coach Greeny in the post game continued to harp on how close this young team is to being pretty good and how proud she was of her players for fighting through the last ball.
I’d have to think that right now all of Cougar nation is proud of this team and is hoping for this win to rally the ladies for their final four matches.
Let’s Go Cougs!
