Let the sparks fly! Tonight should be one of the most entertaining games of the season with the Beavs in town. I have no doubt our secondary will play better than they did against Cal, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t score more points or even light it up for more yards. Brandin Cooks is that good.
The key tonight is stopping the rest of the Beaver posse from demolishing this defense. Pressure has to get to Mannion and it has to get there early. More importantly, the Cougar offense cannot leave points out there. There were at least 17 points left off the board against Cal last week and the Cougs need all they can muster tonight.
This could be the day the Cougs become relevant again! ESPNU in town, sold out Martin, Coug fans have been waiting far too long for a day like this, and it needs to happen this week because I see no hope at Oregon if the Cougs suffer a loss tonight. After the start our Cougs have had, a 4-4 record heading into the bye week would be a major disappointment.
By the way, I never really believed in this game as a “rivalry” match up, but I’m beginning to change my mind a little bit.
Washington State vs Oregon State.
Yeah, I can get into that game as a rivalry game. Although I think it definitely needs a name associated with it as we get into the times where this game actually means something for both teams. After several minutes of contemplation though, I have no idea what it would be called. Maybe something like “Battle of the Northwest” or something. Gives credence to the loss of the “Battle of the Palouse” with Idaho not on the schedule for the foreseeable future. Also allows Oregon vs Washington to be the “Northwest War” or something like that as the two ‘big brother’ schools that hate each other.
I don’t know, just thinking out loud. At any rate, something HAS to be done here, no?
It certainly means a whole lot this week and a Coug win wouldn’t so much damage OSU as bring WSU up to their level. After watching them rise to the BCS last season, who thought we’d be saying that in week 7?
