In shocking news, an ESPN annalyst gave respect to a Pacific Northwest team over an SEC team! What’s even more shocking the team picked to win in the opening week of the 2013 college football season was the Washington State Cougars over Auburn! As we know the Cougs have done nothing over the past several years to earn respect from any type of national media source. The tables are now turning after an exciting Apple Cup win over a 25th ranked Washington team and with an administration determined to return to prominence, the Cougs got their first shout out from ESPN in a long time.
This is exciting because Coug fans have pretty regularly been excited about their team prior to the season kickoff but for a source other than an internal writer or fan to come out and say the Cougs could get a win over ANY SEC team EVER is a big deal! I don’t like to get hung up on preseason hype since I’ve been disappointed nearly every year for the last 8 years but this got me very pumped for week 1. I’m not saying because he said it, it’s going to come true, I’m just saying the prospect of Washington State being better is very exciting!
Now would be a great time for the Cougs to take a step up in the conference. Returning 8 starting guys on offense and adding serious depth to the O-Line you have to be excited about where this is going. Not to mention this is year 2 of the new system so there will be LESS of a learning curve, however there will still be growing pains. Just wanted to share this with my fellow Cougs so check out the shout out from ESPN and GO COUGS!
