It’s tough to find anything that sticks out against Marquess being put here in San Francisco, outside of the fact that the core group is really solid.
The Perfect Storm:
San Francisco has almost double the picks of any other team in the draft, meaning they will have a lot of opportunities to take Marquess. They will probably move up a couple times to get somebody they really want but they will end up with a lot of players to sign after Saturday. Marquess Wilson could very easily be one of those players.
The 49ers are thin at receiver with only 8 on the current roster. My assumption is that they could take at least 2 receivers to really compete for a final spot (or two) on the depth chart. Wilson would also really add to the height of the group at 6’3″. Currently only Boldin and Crabtree stand at 6’1″. Wilson would add athleticism to the group as well. Wilson is especially effective in the red-zone in one on one situations because he focuses in and can make the tough catches.
How important would he have been in the Super Bowl for them to have 3 more inches and a guy who could really go up in the back corner? And yes Anquan Boldin is coming in, but it’s time to be pro-active for SF as they’ll need a high potential prospect to step in when Boldin is done.
Likelihood of Getting Drafted by 49ers:
A- (Unfortunately I really like this match and the chance to learn from Crabtree would be something else, seeing that in college he got compared a lot last season. There’s no better place in the League for Marquess to find leadership in role models.)
