It may be a running joke around Husky Nation that the Cougars don’t own 5 wins total since 1990. Well, that’s not true. Here are the top 5 victories in the Apple Cup for WSU.

1992 @ Washington State:

This was a great victory for Washington State because it was the greatest Quarterback matchup this rivalry may have ever seen.  Call it the Match-up of future Pro Bowl QBs: WSU’s Drew Bledsoe throws for 259 yards and 2 TDs; UW’s Mark Brunell goes just 11 of 26 for 122 yards, but runs for 2 TDs. Cougs Win 42-23.

1997 @ Washington:

Ryan Leaf throws for an Apple Cup-record 358 yards and TDs of 57 and 50 yards to Chris Jackson as the Cougars clinch their first Rose Bowl berth in 67 years. Cougs win 41-35.

2004 @ Washington State:

Quarterback Alex Brink throws two touchdown passes and runs for another as the Cougars defeat the Huskies for the first time since 1997. Cougs win 28-25.

2007 @ Washington:

Alex Brink throws for 399 yards and five TDs and becomes the first WSU quarterback to beat the Huskies three times as the Cougars win the 100th Apple Cup. Cougs win 42-35.

2009 @ Washington State:

The Toilet bowl as it was named by many people. Nico Grasu’s 37-yard FG in the second overtime gives WSU the victory and its second straight win. Willie Griffin rushes for 116 yards for Washington. Cougs win 16-13.
