More upsets, more heartbreaks and more controversy, Week 5 of the College football season brought us some unbelievable match ups. Players set themselves apart as we watched Geno Smith set his place on top of the Heisman trophy watch list.  Week 6 is upon us and this time around, the top teams will be tested, emerging teams reveled and the top team in the Pac12 coming off an ugly win vs our Cougars, will have to face a smoking hot Washington team who is coming off of their big upset over Stanford.

This week Washington State will try to not only avenge last years loss at century link field to the Beavers, but they will try to relive their last visit to Reeser stadium when they shocked Oregon State in Corvallis 31-14 for their only Pac10 victory in 2010.

What Oregon State Brings:

Well they haven’t lost… That’s a pretty good place to start.  They’ve more than earned a #14 ranking in the AP poll.  Every team they’ve beat this year was ranked in the top 25 at some point this Season.  How have they done it?  This team is incredibly balanced.  Starting on Offense Markus Wheaton is an incredible receiver who is as explosive as anyone in the Pac12.  His ability to burn past defensive backs is a huge concern for any opponent and especially these Cougs.  Up until last week this Defense showed what they’re capable of by holding 2 top 25 offensives to only a combined 27 points.

So what is the Cougar Trend in Week 6?:

Well there are two!  First is Offense.  Continue to be you.  Connor has been really lighting up defenses stat wise, in fact going into last week no one in the Country had thrown for more yards and he needs to just keep on what he’s doing.  If his Wide outs would catch the balls that hit them in the hands Connors completion percentage would have been more than impressive last week.  This week lets focus on making catches.  We’re so close to being that high scoring air raid Mike Leach offense, our wide receivers just need to step up big time this week.

Yes, I’m calling you out Marquess! You had a career night last week but still could have done better! You are so much better than what you have been.  I know Jeff didn’t look your way very much in the first 2 games but look at how much Connor is counting on you to make catches, I’m not just talking about those big ones you have been pulling down but the 3 TD’s you’ve dropped the last two weeks!  Help out your QB, help out your team and help yourself get a great deal in the NFL.  If you do this, your team will rise with you.  You were upset we weren’t going to you early so it’s time to perform now that we are counting on you for almost half our passing yards! You got it, ball out!

Next Trend Defense, Take what you did quarters 1 and 2 from last week and build.  D Line you have to perform as you did last week the rest of the season.  A bowl is still in reach Cougs but it’s obvious we need our D! We proved we could compete with anyone if our D comes to play, but we have to play 4 quarters.  We all believe in you now that we’ve seen you contain the most explosive offense in the Nation.  D backs, figure something out to slow down Markus Wheaton and we can beat a ranked team for the first time since 2006 when we shocked the Nation at took out the No. 16 Oregon Ducks.

That’s it Cougs.  Lets take back Corvallis, this is a winnable game for us.  I pointed out earlier the impressive season the Beavers are having but with their slim win over Arizona last week their Defense proved to have holes and we have to take advantage of that and blow it wide open.  I think if we score 35-38 points we can win this one, but that’s gonna take a solid second half.  Can we do it? I believe.
