WSU Football: Leach Names Captains For BYU, Season

facebooktwitterreddit

Over the weekend, Mike Leach named what will likely be his season captains:

Offense – Jeff Tuel and Andrei Lintz

Defense – Deone Bucannon and Travis Long

Special Teams – Andrew Furney

I’m not sure how much, if anything, we can derive from this but it’s always fun to see who the leaders of the team are and it’s a solid cast. In the case of Lintz, he’s earned it with impressive camps in both the Spring and Fall, as well as apparently winning over his teammates and his coaches for that matter, with dedication to his new craft and a drive to come out and be better every day. He doesn’t fit the prototype when it comes to Mike Leach receivers, but he has become a starting inside receiver along the way and there’s only one way that is done. In the cases of the other 4, they were pretty much expected and will be on the All-Pac-12 watch list throughout the year. Tuel is the undisputed leader of the team, Bucannon has become a physical presence and vocal leader on defense, Long is quiet but leads by example and Furney has really become a solid and clutch leader in the special teams. They will all need to do their part as the season rolls along, starting in Provo on Thursday.
