Washington State Position Breakdown: Quarterback
By Mark Allen
Jeff Tuel: What I love about Jeff, is his great leadership, arm strength, and size. It will be tough for him to lose this job unless Connor makes a huge improvement over the summer and in Fall Camp. Jeff Tuel will put up very big numbers this upcoming season. The thing though that worries me, is injury. Many people do think he will suffer an injury and I’m somewhat worried that could happen. But with a summer with a far better Strength coach, I’m sure he’ll be much stronger. The true test is how good the Offensive line will be come August 30th which will be a big test.
Connor Halliday: We’re not even 100% sure if he’s even back to full strength. I wouldn’t expect to see Connor back on the field this year, but If we do… we all know what this young man is capable of. Connor isn’t as good as Jeff just yet. But i will feel very confident when Jeff leaves that we have another young talented QB in the waiting. It’ll be interesting to see how he does in practices.
David Gilbertson: This kid nobody really knew, except for the fact that his Dad coached at UW. David surprised a lot of people this spring, he got down the offense and showed he was capable of running this offense. Of course he’s not going to beat out Jeff, but he could become the #2 QB if Connor isn’t healthy to be back on the field or doesn’t have the whole offense down.
Cody Clements: He is still young and we haven’t seen enough of him yet to give him a full analysis. The spring game wasn’t a good performance by him in my opinion. He struggled at times, but like i said earlier he is only a Red-shirt Freshman. Cody has time and I’m sure he’ll develop and do fine here.
Austin Apodaca: When Austin first committed to us, I didn’t really think his film was great at first. But, when after his senior season was over he released a Senior highlight tape and that was very good footage of him. Leach said he’s a very accurate passer and the most accurate of of all the Quarterbacks he’s recruited. I’m very excited to see what Austin can do for us. Of course he is going to red-shirt, but it’ll be nice to see how well he does here.
Recruiting Update: 4 star QB Tyler Bruggman didn’t commit tonight. There was a rumor floating around Cougfan that his parents wanted Jason Gesser to promote WSU to their son. Which didn’t happen, he did the complete opposite.
But, Richard Obert of Arizona Republic first predicted that he would choose ASU, has no changed that to Washington State. He said he has heard some new information but wouldn’t say.
Also, there were rumors going around that WSU Commit S Trevor Walker would decommit. That didn’t happen, but it’s been made very clear that Trevor’s dad doesn’t want him to go to Wazzu because he wants to see his son play.
Today was the Northwest Elite Camp & after the camp awards were handed out.
WSU OL Commit Cody O’connell won the OL Award and Washington State recruit Issac Dotson won the QB award. (Who was offered as a ATH)
That is all for now! We will update you as soon as we hear anything else.
