Leach Effect in Progress On Washington State Recruiting Trail
By Josh Davis
Via Kyle Rancourt of CougCenter, we have learned that WSU has landed it’s first 2013 Verbal Commit, Texas all district Safety Trevor Walker out of Arlington. This kid looks like the real deal in the highlight video, as he certainly has a super nose for the ball and while he doesn’t look like the fastest kid, he has impressive recovery and closing speed in the open field.
After watching the video in the link above, I am thinking that this is the best looking recruit at Safety that we’ve had in a decade. The Cougs have had some good ones in that time but anyone that saw #19 Lamont Thompson and #27 Erik Coleman patrol the Crimson and Gray backfield know that they were far and away the best, most consistent playmakers we’ve ever had back there (at the time of course they were also the absolute best in the Conference). Walker reminds me of Thompson with his ball skills and Coleman with his efficiency when hitting receivers.
Even with the whole Leach thing going on, it’s tough for us Cougar fans to believe that Pullman is the type of sell that is attractive to some of the better defensive prospects in the country. I don’t know what Walker is rated or where he ranks among the Safety prospects in the nation, but I do know that his commitment is the type that will get other good looking defensive players up in here in a hurry!
Go Cougs!
