Most Washington State fans know by now that redshirt sophomore to-be Austin Apodaca is transferring schools. What may not be known yet is where he is transferring.

The mobile quarterback has decided to head far South to Mesa CC in Arizona in search of a starting role and the eventual transfer back to the FBS level as a fourth-year junior. With the NCAA rules that you have to sit out a year when transferring directly from an FBS school to another FBS school, this makes a lot of sense for Apodaca.

Sometimes if you find a good situation that you can walk right into at the FBS level and take an available spot, but Apodaca doesn’t really have prime-time experience. Also, if he wishes to transfer anywhere in the Pac-12 he has to transfer to an FCS school anyway.

Not sure what Austin’s plans are for finding the desired PT in the future, but he’ll have all options available to him after he finishes the 2014 season with Mesa.
