Prediction and Early Impact:

I see OLB Frank Luvu taking a red shirt in his first year. With most of the linebackers that saw the majority of the playing time returning next year and their backups also returning, I see the coaching staff utilizing a free year out of him while giving the upper-classmen their time on the field.

Luvu has the size (6’2, 215) and speed to play right away but will utilize his red shirt year to work on his east-west movement and tracking the ball carrier. One of Luvu’s best traits is his athleticism and his constant effort. Luvu is always trying to keep up with the play even if he gets burned or is on the back side of the play and his athleticism allows him to keep up with them.

Luvu played defensive end and corner in high school so his speed and physicality are not in question. Playing these two positions also allowed him to gain a good use of his hands when he is locked up with his opponent.
