Washington State Football Recruiting: Cougs Grab Commit, OL Carlos Freeman From OKlahoma

Mike Leach is looking for a particular brand of lineman and he doesn’t care the star value placed on them, based on his first 2 oral commits for the 2013 class. Monster 350 lbs OL Cody O’Connell from Wenatchee was the first to give his commitment to the Crimson and Gray and now, Carlos Freeman has joined the offensive line. Both are rated as 2 and 3 star players, depending on the recruiting site of choice.

Freeman is from Midwest HS, in Oklahoma. The kid is a healthy 290 lbs and stands at 6’3, adding both beef and length to the line. Leach’s wide split line system calls for players that can reach a little with their length, it’s obvious that he’s getting that type of guy. Freeman’s Huddl Highlight film show good athleticism and of course great size. The thought is that he is being looked at as a center, which he doesn’t really play in high school but is very versatile along the line.

Should be fun to see where Leach goes for linemen from here on out, as far as body type. At Tech I remember a lot of long cats with quick feet, and they weren’t particularly high on regard coming out of high school. Regardless, Leach always put together a line that was feared throughout the Big 12 and he’ll be able to do it again here.

Go Cougs!
