The Cougars have garnered some national attention for their head football new coach, but now they are getting a little love for the players, as the 2012 watch lists have been released. Four separate Cougs made the lists, which have a lot of players on them to start the year. It’s really after the second cut during the year that we find out who is worthy of the list, but regardless to even be on the preseason list is a privilege and should be noted.

Marquess Wilson is up for the Maxwell and Biletnikoff Awards, which signify the nation’s top player and top receiver respectively.

Travis Long is up for the Rotary Lambardi Award (Lineman of the Year), Butkus Award (Best Linebacker) and Bronko Nagurski Trophy (Most Valuable Defender).

Jeff Tuel is up for the Davey O-Brien Award which is given to the nation’s top QB.

And finally, Andrew Furney is up for the Lou Groza Award, given to the nation’s top kicker.

It’s been a while since the Cougs have had this many players on preseason watch lists, so let’s enjoy it and hope they can all make a push towards the finalist categories later in the year.

Here is the full list of preseason candidates for all awards.
