WSU Rally’s In Grand Fashion On Saturday, Falls Short Sunday Against Beavs

PJ Jones walked up in the ninth with the Cougs down 2 runs and the bases loaded on Saturday and just tried to drive the ball somewhere to get it to the Cougs’ best hitter in Derek Jones. But PJ (no relation) instead put his first home run in the left field scoreboard, keeping the slim to none playoff hopes for the Cougar baseball team alive just one more night. The 9-7 win over the Beavers sparked hope for a possible 6 game rally by WSU to reach postseason play, but lightning would not strike twice on Sunday. The Beavs held on to a 7-5 victory with Taylor Ard going down with the tying runners on base.

The Cougs still have Washington and Gonzaga on the schedule, but stumbling to a 2-6 record over the last 8 has made those games mostly about pride as opposed to significance in the Pac-12 race. Still, a walk off is always something to take a second look at, so here is Saturday’s Grand Slam walk-off moment from PJ Jones.
