Washington State vs Portland State: GameDay Huddle

facebooktwitterreddit

OK friends, it’s time for our Washington State Cougars to show us something today against Portland State. First true home game of the season, the grand opening of the new Martin Stadium, a lowly foe in town, it all sets up for WSU to break out the can this evening.

The first two games have some of us scrambling for the exits, but sometimes it’s adversity that drives people to great things. There’s no reason to quit just two games into the season because basically, the entire season is still ahead of them. This isn’t last year’s basketball team with no hope of turnaround and a lame-duck coach.

This team has figured out how to lose these first couple weeks, but if you can’t tell they are on the verge of something special here, you haven’t been paying attention over the past decade. Mike Leach and the coaches have this team believing they should be winning, so now all it is, is transferring that belief into reality.

Our team is obviously faster and more athletic this season but for whatever reason haven’t been able to put it together. Today is the day. I feel PSU is in for a LOOOOONG day in Pullman. And the best part is that this Vikings team took Oregon State much further than they would have liked, so it’s a chance for WSU to prove to this fan base and the Pac-12 that they are ready to finally turn it around if they can just leave the Vikes in the dust.

Speaking of PSU, Washington State has never lost to a 1-AA or FCS opponent. If that were to somehow happen today, I am all-but certain heads would roll before Monday. Not that I expect this to be a close game at all, but they still have to play the game and the Cougs still have to take care of business. I guess that’s what makes this so exciting. I would really like to see our offense start fast this week to get a feel for what that’s like because if they are to make any kind of a game out of it against Oregon next week, that’s what it will take. Also, Breske should never stop blitzing tonight.

I’m looking forward to being there at 5 pm with the rest of Cougar Nation to usher in a new era of Cougar football in Martin Stadium.

GO COUGS!
