Atlanta Hawks To Give D.J. Shelton Summer League Shot

Recently graduated WSU big man D.J. Shelton has earned the opportunity to play for the Atlanta Hawks during the NBA Summer League in hopes of earning an invitation to training camp. Of course this is just a small step forward for Shelton and by no means gives him any guarantee at playing in the NBA next year, but it is always cool to see Cougs getting the opportunity to play at the next level.

If Shelton can play well during the Summer League, he can hope to earn an invite to training camp with the Hawks or catch the eye of another NBA team. Shelton is an intriguing prospect, he clearly has the athletic talents as Cougar fans remember many highlight reel blocks and dunks. However, Shelton is a bit raw and could use some shoring up of his fundamentals if he has any hopes of one day playing in the NBA.

The NBA Summer League in Las Vegas runs from July 11th-July 21st so Shelton doesn’t have a whole lot of time to play well and impress scouts. He’ll need some stand out numbers in order to make the next step and earn an invite to training camp. Let’s hope Shelton provides some magic and earn himself an invitation to the next step towards his NBA goal, training camp.
