With Deone Bucannon‘s solid NFL Combine performance in Indianapolis these past few days (ranging from impressive interviews on Sunday/Monday to a head-turning 4.49 40 yard dash on Tuesday), Washington State is back on the map. I don’t mean people know where it is again either, I mean NFL teams will now get back to paying attention to players coming out of the rolling hills of the Palouse.
That doesn’t always transfer to a Combine invite, actually in most cases it has little to do with it. Still, it helps to be a player at a noticeable school and thanks to Deone (and in no small part thanks to a bowl-worthy 2013 season), WSU is once again in that position. This is why I think a couple of Cougars have an outside shot of working their way into Combine consideration in 2014.
*Couple quick notes, the Cougars return 23 as seniors in 2014, a solid but not overly huge number. It looks like the future is in great shape as far as retaining goes if Mike Leach can keep his classes together. I also think there are more than these two players (maybe as many as five) that have a shot at a pro career. Also, as an aside, at this point I don’t see either of these choices as Combine-worthy candidates coming out of their 2013 seasons, only in potential based on Leach’s track record and a couple of vital factors in their favor. Continue to the next two pages to see the two players I think have that shot at being invited to the 2014 NFL Combine.
