The Washington State Cougars’ women’s team raced out to a 14 point lead early in the second half but then couldn’t find the bucket, allowing the lady Wildcats of Arizona to claw their way back into it. Fortunately for coach June Daugherty, her team was up to the task in the final moments, especially on the boards to secure a two-point victory.

The Cougars move to 8-6 and 2-0 on the young conference season, a feat they’ve accomplished now twice in the past three seasons. The difference this year in a chance to go to the dance is two-fold; the experience factor of Wazzu is much more enhanced and Lia Galdeira is much more able to guide this team long term. It’s definitely still early though.

The Washington Huskies come to town on Tuesday for the women’s Apple Cup rivalry, before the two go right back at it in Seattle on Saturday. That’s an interesting early double header between these ladies as UW is riding a 36 game win streak against WSU. THIRTY SIX!

That’s an incredible and huge number, but let’s put it into perspective right at this very moment. The Dawgs just got destroyed by an angry Sun Devil’s team in Seattle, 78-60. Remember the Cougs beat the Devils for the fourth straight time Friday night, 85-78. Confidence is high right now for the ladies in Crimson. Can’t wait to end the streak!

Go Cougs!
