By now you know that the Washington State Cougars are headed to the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, two Saturday’s from now.

What you may not know is that Mike Leach has played there and been there for some fun in the… snow?

"“Throughout my career I have played in New Mexico a lot of times, I’ve visited New Mexico, I’ve skied in New Mexico and it’s a great place. There is a great spirit to the people there and we are honored to have the opportunity to go to Albuquerque to play another football game.”"

Of course Leach played for BYU so the conference affiliation with New Mexico made that an easy trip. But the skiing part is a pretty neat factoid. I mean honestly when I think of New Mexico probably the last thing that comes to mind is the snow and when I think of Mike Leach the last thing that comes to mind is, well, a pair of sticks zipping back and forth down the alps.

The man is known for his wide range of talents though, maybe I should have expected this. So now you know when he’s not coaching, he’s he either out killing a bear, skiing the mountains or just generally being “the most interesting man in the world.” Sounds simple enough for him.

A quick glance into google will lead you to SkiNewMexico.com, where you can find a bunch of ski resorts and if you plan ahead you might be able to go skiing yourself before or after the bowl game which would be kinda cool (no pun intended)! Of course the game as we said is only two weeks away so plan now.

Bill Moos also chimed in on the bowl game for WSU and he was pretty happy about the developments of Sunday.

"“Playing in a bowl game will be a fabulous experience for Washington State and a just reward for this team. Over the past few weeks I have had the chance to talk with many bowl representatives and I believe the Gildan New Mexico Bowl will be a great event and something our fans, players and coaches will truly enjoy.”"

If you’re looking for some early WSU New Mexico Bowl apparel, here’s some from college hill custom threads. I’m sure more will come available through WSU athletics or alternate sources within the near future as well.

And by the way, here are some things Mike Leach might have done… just because.
