2014 Washington State Recruiting Breakdown: Offensive Tackle Damien Mama (Offered)

facebooktwitterreddit

Damien Mama out of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California is a big 4-star recruit. At 6-5/340 Mama is a very big offensive tackle. With the struggles and lack of this type of size Washington State and Mama would be a great fit.

Mama is an all-around tackle who can pass block just as well as he can run block. At 340-pounds you would not expect a player to have the speed and agility that he has. When run blocking Mama is off the line quick and stays low taking the defender way out of the play and moves on to the next available player to block normally ending up with the player on his back.

When pass blocking Mama can come out of a three-point or a two-point and is still able to produce the same results. With a quick defender lined up across from him Mama is able to take a large but quick step back and still has the speed and ability to come back inside if the defender cuts back. One thing that stood out to me was how quick his hands and feet were. They both were constantly moving and were always very quick. With the strength that Mama has combined with the quickness it is very hard for a defender to get by him.

When watching Mama in Nike’s Football Training Camp (NFTC) he acted as a leader and took charge of the players around him. Attitude is another huge part of a players abilities and Mama seems to have that locked in as well.
