Washington State Picks Up a DT Commit For 2012

According to the Idaho Statesmen, Austin Brown of Mountain View High School has committed to the Cougs for 2013. The southern Idaho prospect is 6’3, 265 and will help bolster the interior for Mike Breske and the Cougar defense. Brown finished his senior season with 75 tackles and 4 sacks, which means he’s got a nose for the ball and must be fairly athletic at his position. In fact that is proven as he blocked 12 kicks in his high school career and Boise State (who only gets athletic linemen to be up on the defensive front) had Brown originally coming in at preferred walk on status. It’s always exciting and important to get some local in any class, so this is a win/win for Mike Leach and the Cougs.

EDIT: I must have read the information wrong, as Brown will actually arrive in June and be on the roster for the 2012 season. As we know, the Cougs have had a few scholarship guys who left the team for various reasons, so this is likely a pickup of one of those spots. Congrats to our newest 2012 Cougar!
